That Time I Stuffed a Live Cow into the Back Seat

**Here’s the full story from Paola Brown:**

It was the middle of summer when my little bull, Monti (short for Arnica Montana), started limping after his castration. The surgery seemed straightforward, but within a week, his scrotum swelled to the size of a small football, and he had a fever of 104°F. I knew infection had set in, and I had to act fast.

As a new homesteader, I was as green as they come—but also stubborn. Determined to avoid conventional treatments, I turned to homeopathy. I tried several familiar remedies, hoping to give Monti relief, but nothing seemed to work. The swelling got worse, and eventually, we faced the dreaded trip to the vet.

But without a truck or trailer, we had to improvise. So, we did what any scrappy homesteader would: We stuffed Monti into the back of our Rav4. You can’t imagine the hullabaloo it caused! We used an old door as a makeshift ramp, and it took two sets of ropes—me pulling from inside the car and my husband outside near the trunk—plus a lot of pushing to get Monti in. My husband and eldest son (who was only 10 at the time) literally had to shove the back door shut to prevent Monti from backing out of the trunk! Of course, right after we got Monti in, my husband, Jason, kissed me goodbye and delightfully went to work. It was up to me and the kids to transport him to the vet.

After laughing to the point of tears–he’d never had a cow transported in such a way–the vet didn’t have great news: “His body isn’t sorting this out. You’ll need to give him antibiotics.”

Determined to heal Monti without antibiotics, I tucked in and really concentrated. I knew I needed take matters into my own hands. After a deep dive in my Materia medica book, and after calling a few homeopaths, I finally realized Monti needed the homeopathic remedy Hepar sulph. That remedy turned everything around.

Hepar sulph is literally a life saver, especially when it comes to nasty, foul smelling, abscess-like infections.

The experience was exhausting but empowering. I had the tools I needed, and didn’t have to rely on conventional medicine. Homeopathy gave me the chance to take care of Monti myself and avoid the long-term impact of antibiotics.

This hands-on experience, along with many others, inspired me to create Evie and the Golden Homestead. In two separate units of this program, I give special attention to learning about homeopathy for infections. The beauty of homeopathy is that it doesn’t matter whether the infection is in a beast or a human—the key is selecting the correct remedy for the symptoms.

This digital program teaches 19 different homeopathic remedies, each paired with rich, real-life stories—many from my own family. And yes, the cow-stuffed-in-the-Rav4 is certainly included. My goal is to give your family the knowledge of TRUE health in a loving and meaningful way, helping you gain confidence and take control of your well-being together.

If you’ve ever wanted to take control of your family’s health and be more self-reliant, this program is for you. If you want your kids to know these truths, down to their toes, this program is for you. That’s how my work is designed…so that knowledge spreads to your loved ones as you learn together.
