“It is very important to keep balance in both ballet and martial arts” said George Birkadze, a world-renowned ballet dancer and choreographer who holds black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Judo and Kyokushin karate.

George Birkadze bridges the worlds of martial arts and ballet.

“I want to show techniques “beautifully” in ballet and “cool” in martial arts. Martial arts taught me how to control myself and the ballet made me a better martial artist,” said Birkadze.

“All dancers are fighters and all fighters are dancers,” said Birkadze

“Many people think that professional dancers and professional martial artists are different things, but there are many similarities between the two,” said Birkadze. “In any field the “appearance” of the technique becomes important. And in order to have better results we will be training daily in both areas.”

Birkadze is currently Artistic Director of the Classical Training Program at The Dallas Conservatory.

He is eager to collaborate with our organization on the Ballet & Identity project to create a program for youth where both systems, classical ballet and martial arts, can be combined for the purpose of building strong Identity.
